First Hunts
Our chapter hosts multiple first hunts each year for youth and first time hunters of all ages to experience the field and pheasant hunting. No shotgun no problem, we have you covered! Our courses start out with an introduction to shotgun shooting where certified shooting instructors get new hunters consistently breaking clay targets from a fixed trap machine. We then introduce them to the wobble trap and proper shotgun carry, shoulder, and safe shot techniques. New hunters then get bring all the safety and shooting skills together under a controlled pheasant hunt with accompanying mentors. After hopefully harvesting a few pheasants participants are shown how to clean birds and prep them for a meal. If you know a new hunter that would like to attend one of our first hunt events please get in contact with us!
Wingshooting Clinics
Upland hunting begins with safety and knowing how to shoot! It can be hard starting a new hobby all by yourself. Our chapter holds several family, youth only, and women only wingshooting clinics each year which utilize an introduction to incoming and outgoing clay targets to get you ready for the field. If you have never shot before, this is a great place to start. Our chapter has several volunteer certified shooting instructors that help make these events safe and successful.
Hunters Education Courses
A safe experience in the field starts with a certified Hunters Education course. Each year our chapter hosts several hunters education courses in the Sedgwick County area. These courses are affiliated with the State of Kansas hunters education program. We typically schedule at least one summer and one fall/winter course to offer as much opportunity during these peak demands for hunters education courses as possible. All of our available courses and other courses throughout the State of Kansas are listed through safehunters.com
